Main Beach is a town outside the Gold Coast. It sits on a narrow strip of land next to Surfers Paradise. It has a handy location close to the Broadwater Parklands and easy access to many main Gold Coast attractions.

Weekend itinerary

Saturday

Day: Indulge Your Inner Child at Sea World Marine Park

A visit to Main Beach (or even Gold Coast) is incomplete without a visit to Sea World Marine Park. Whether you like thrilling rides or want to see tropical fishes and marine mammals, you’re in for a treat. The park is so large that it’s easy to spend a whole day without realising time has passed.

The polar bear and penguin exhibits and the seal and dolphin shows are a must-see. If you need an adrenaline rush, scream your heart out while riding the Leviathan, Jet Rescue Coaster, and Storm Coaster. But if you’re travelling with kids, there are a lot of Nickelodeon-themed rides for them to choose from.

Sea World has several shows during the day, but set aside some time to see the fabulous Thunder Lake Stunt Show. Plus, you don’t have to go out of the amusement park to grab lunch. From seafood to fast food, Sea World has many dining options available you can choose from.

Evening:  Dinner at the Restaurants along Tedder Avenue

It’s been a long and fun filled day, and you’ve worked up an appetite. So why not head to Tedder Avenue and dine at one of the iconic Gold Coast restaurants found here? Start with Main Wave Restaurant, which features hearty local and international cuisine. There’s also Shuck Restaurant for delicious seafood, or try Mano’s for some comfort food and live music.

If you’re looking for international cuisine, try Gourmet China on Tedder, Senza Nome Italian Restaurant, or Xenia Main Beach (Greek cuisine). If you don’t want to stray far from Pacific Views Resort, grab dinner and a nightcap at Sea Urchin Kitchen & Bar (located at the hotel’s ground level).

Sunday

Early morning: Ride a hot air balloon with Go Ballooning Gold Coast

See the Gold Coast from above by riding a hot air balloon with Go Ballooning Gold Coast. Go Ballooning is available until 10 pm, but setting out earlier is a great way to start the day. Flights start at 4 am so that you can see the city or the surrounding hinterlands most serenely.

Snap your softest and most photogenic picture during the golden hour at sunrise.

The company offers flight packages, including a Romance and Express Flight Package. Are you holidaying with your mates? You’re in luck because you can book the company’s Group Charter.

Book with Go Ballooning Gold Coast online before you leave for Main Beach. Just tell them to pick you up at Pacific Views Resort for a hassle-free morning trip to the site (you can do this at their website).

Day: Enjoy a Sumptuous Lunch

Hot Shott Main Beach is best known for its all-day breakfast with standard fares, including breakfast burgers, eggs Benedict, pancakes, and more. The restaurant also offers tasty lunch dishes, sides, and drinks.

If you’re craving authentic Italian food, head to Milan on Main. Choose from a wide array of appetising antipasti to a selection of delectable pasta smothered in rich sauces. Pizzas are also available if you want something classic. Smaller portions are available for kids under 10.

Le Jardin Cafe is a good option if you’re looking for alfresco dining. It has that chic Parisian vibe, complete with bistro-style wooden chairs and Parisian decor. Food ranges from standard Australian breakfast to French favourites, such as baguettes, crepes, and croissants.

Afternoon: Catch the Waves or Relax on Main Beach

If you fancy a long-ish drive to take in the Main Beach scenery, return to The Spit and sign up for a short surf lesson with Get Wet Surf School. Tip: You can book your morning surfing lesson days ahead on their website to secure your slot. They have morning and afternoon lessons. Separate adult and kids lessons are available, but you can book as a family if you travel with your kids. Be prepared to set aside two hours for your lessons.
